The 49,600 hectare Valhalla Provincial Park is diverse and stunning, filled with steep valleys, glacial lakes and forests of western red cedar, western hemlock, larch, grand fir, lodgepole pine, birch, poplar and alder. The park area encompasses the western shores of Slocan Lake and most of the Valhalla Range of the Selkirk Mountains. Animal life is abundant and includes species such as mountain goat, grizzly bear, cougar, caribou and many other smaller mammals. Kokanee, mountain whitefish, Dolly Varden, rainbow and cutthroat trout are resident in Slocan Lake. Here on the shores of the lake ancient pictographs from long ago inhabitants of the area can be seen.
