Fishing Report: Managed as a quality lake Big OK produces rainbows 3lbs and larger, by larger is meant that 8lbs and up is not unheard of in this lake. Huge chironamid, mayflies and sedge hatches along good populations of fresh water shrimp ensure these trout get enough food to grow big. This is an artificial fly only catch and release fishery. Best times for fishing are spring and fall. If you're a fly fisherman and are looking for trophy rainbow, Big OK is the lake you might be looking for.
Be sure to visit Fishbc.com for angling information!

Viewscape: Big OK is a manmade lake situated on the Thompson Plateau. Forests consists mainly of Engelmann spruce and lodgepole pine interspersed with small amounts of common juniper, alder, willow and poplar. Slopes around Big OK vary widely from 5% at the outlet to a maximum of 25% on the southwest end. An earthen dam makes up most of the southwest end. Water is only able to pass over the overflow on the west side of the dam at high water.

Shoreline: Surrounded by a l0 meter (32.8 ft) wide band of deciduous growth, composed of alder and willow which gives way to a coniferous forest. Along the shoreline many stumps and boulders can be found along with a band of sedge ranging from 5-l0 meters (l6-33 ft) in width. Aquatic plants include chara and potamogeton. The lake bottom is composed of organics over cobble. The mid-lake area and the east shore is made up of a large sunken island averaging l.8m (5.9 ft) in depth, dropping away to l2.2 m (40ft) on the south end of the lake. The northwest and northeast corners contain pockets of deep water.
